This weeks SinchCast comes from the first recording we ever made. As you can imagine it doesn’t sound that great. In fact it sounds horrible. But listening to this you can appreciate how far we’ve come in the last 11 years. Other topics of discussion include: the early years of practicing, previous bands, karaoke machines, and more…

SinchCast #9 features an unreleased version of a song that many of you heard back when we first signed with Roadrunner Records. It was featured on a couple of their sampler CDs as well as the soundtrack to the movie Ginger Snaps. The version that was released was edited down from this original version.
It’s not a completely different song or anything, but we wanted to get this version out there and we figured it was a good excuse to talk about some of our first experiences in the studio with real producers. This was recorded soon after the demo version of “Pain” that we featured in an earlier podcast.
SinchCast #9 - The Silent Acquiescence of Millions (Unedited Eddie Wohl version)
Stay tuned after the song for a sneak preview of what you can expect at this Friday’s North Star show.

SinchCast #8 comes from the pre-production sessions before we started recording the Self-Titled album in 2001, and features a performance by Walter Schreifels, who you may know from Quicksand, Rival Schools, or Walking Concert among other things.
This was recorded at our rehearsal space with one microphone. Walter is on the acoustic guitar.

You knew it would happen eventually.
SinchCast is going to be late this week. We were on the road all weekend and everything sort of caught up to us this week.
We should have a new podcast up in a couple of days and we’ll be back on track for next Monday.
This week’s track comes from 2003 when we were writing the music for Clearing the Channel. It’s a song that just never really came together so it wasn’t recorded for the album. The quality of this recording isn’t that great, but you can get the idea. We usually record our rehearsals (when we’re writing anyway) just with a single microphone. It’s really just so we can remember things and have something to listen to at home.
We have a ton of these recordings so this definitely won’t be the only one we use for the podcast.

This week’s track comes from a show we played on the Stone Sour/Chevelle tour in 2002. Something we forgot to mention in the podcast - after you listen to the song you might be wondering who “Lou” is. You’ll see why. Anyway, he was one of the local reps at Roadrunner and I guess happened to be right by the front of the stage.

Still as-of-yet unused! Come on! Someone call us!
Don’t even ask. Yes, the song is called “ham bread.” It was a working title and there’s a boring story behind where it came from but it doesn’t really matter.
This song was recorded right before we went into the studio to record the self-titled album. We did it pretty much the same way as the Project:Bluebird EP — on a Roland VS880 in our practice space.

Anyone who’s been a fan of this band for a long time (or I guess anyone who’s done their homework) knows that the song "Seven" from our self-titled album, was orginally called “Pain” and that we’ve recorded it quite a number of times. Well, it’s time to add one more recording to the list. This one comes from back in 2000, around the time we were in negotiations to sign our deal with Roadrunner Records.
We were in the process of talking to several producers about doing our first album. The first one we talked to was Pete Matthews. We met with him and listened to some of the stuff he had worked on recently and decided that he was a generally nice guy and that we’d like to persue working with him. But it’s one thing to hear someone’s past work and its another to actually work with them, so we headed down to Memphis, TN to record sort of a "test track" to see how we would work together. We did the same thing with Eddie Wohl, the result of which ended up on the Ginger Snaps soundtrack and some Roadrunner sampler CDs. This track was never released, so we figured you might like to finally hear it.
An interesting side note that we didn’t mention in the podcast… Pete Matthews was actually the guy who "discovered" Evenescance. When we were in the studio they hadn’t released their album yet and so obviously no one had heard of them. But I remember him talking about them a lot and thinking that I couldn’t imagine a band with a name like Evanescance being a well-known band. Shows how much I know. Unfortunately Pete’s involvement in our career hasn’t had the same effect, but I’m pretty sure it’s not his fault…

Let us know what you think. About the song, the podcast in general, or anything else that’s on your mind. We’re starting to think you guys have nothing to say. No one has called us yet. ::sad face::

This week’s SinchCast features an older song that we recorded back in 1997, before most of you had probably even heard of us. It was about a year after we released our very first full length album, “The Strychnine.” We actually recorded 5 or 6 tracks in those sessions that all eventually got thrown out. All the other tracks were then re-recorded (along with some new songs) and released in 1998 as “Diatribe”.

Last week we suggested that you send us some audio feedback that we can include in a future podcast. To make things easier we’ve set up a SinchCast hotline where you can call and leave us feedback. No recording expertise necessary. Just call this number and let us know what you think:

My Odeo Channel (odeo/ea2eec0bbb1c7ac6)
This week’s podcast features a demo track that was recorded in 2003 in the same sessions as the “2003 Demo Track” that was featured on the site at the time. That song went on to become “The Power of Suggestion”, which you can find on our latest album, “Clearing the Channel.” The other two songs went on to become unreleased tracks that we never used for anything.
SinchCast #2 - CPU Hog
This one’s working title was “CPU Hog.” If we had ever released it on an album we probably would have given it a different title, but it never made it that far.
Once again, let us know what you think. The first person to send us audio feedback (record yourself talking and send it to us) will get an awesome prize and have their voice featured in a future podcast.
