Buddy Rigoddamndiculous

Most people from my generation probably have never heard of Buddy Rich. Being a drummer I’ve always heard the name but for a while never really took the time to see what he was all about.

When you’re young you tend to just disregard stuff that’s before your time as “not cool” or whatever. But as far as drum solos go, I don’t think it gets much cooler than this. He’s gotta be like 60 years old in this video (or at least close to it) and he’s fucking GOING OFF! I’ve never seen anyone even half his age pull off some shit like this.

The amazing power, precision, and focus that Buddy had was incredible. Notice how he uses the stick against the Kick drum, and later counters the kick with the floor tom!

That’s one of the most impressive solo feats I’ve ever seen, rivalling and possibly surpassing Stevie Ray Vaughan and Victor Wooten. This whole time I thought Keith Moon and the drummer from Cheap Trick had the most impressive drum solos.
